Panel marketing is full of abbreviations. Here is how to compare actual module performance, warranties and roof suitability rather than buying a name.
Mono PERC
Passivated-emitter and rear-cell designs improved conventional crystalline silicon cell performance. They remain a reference point when comparing newer products, although exact efficiency depends on the manufacturer and module.
TOPCon
Tunnel oxide passivated contact cell structures can improve cell performance and reduce some loss mechanisms. But a TOPCon label alone does not prove superior economics for every roof: compare certified datasheets, degradation curves and warranty coverage.
Bifacial panels
Bifacial modules may generate extra energy from light reflected onto their back surface. The gain depends on mounting clearance, ground reflectivity, shading and installation geometry. On close-to-roof mounting there may be little advantage.
Buying checklist
- Compare module wattage and efficiency at standard testing conditions.
- Check temperature coefficient, product warranty and performance warranty.
- Check manufacturer support and compatible inverter electrical limits.
- For subsidy projects, confirm current DCR/ALMM applicability, not just brand nationality.
